The team is faced with solving the possible suicide of a high-roller who fell to his death from a hotel after winning $40 million, while also trying to solve who shot Holly Gribbs. Grissom also gets the uneviable job of head of the CSI unit when Brass is transferred to Homicide.

When just a leg surfaces in a lake, Grissom finds himself investigating a murder involving a possible adulterous situation. Nick and Sara investigate the apparent suicide of a college student in a fraternity house.
105. "Friends and Lovers" (Nov 3 2000)
Grissom investigates the death of a naked young man found in the desert. A woman who was buried the week before is no longer in her grave, but instead is found in a dumpster. A young woman claims self defense when a college dean is found dead.
106. "Who Are You?" (Nov 10 2000)
A plumbing problem unearths a woman's skeleton buried in the foundation of a house. Grissom's task is to determine her identity - and killer - from the remains. Catherine is faced with a difficult case: her ex-husband has been charging with raping a stripper. Warrick and Sara investigate an officer-involved shooting.
107. "Blood Drops" (formerly known as If These Walls Could Talk) (Nov 17 2000)
The entire team focuses on a grisly mass murder in a suburban home. Four family members are brutally butchered with a kitchen knife in their sleep. The only survivors are the two daughters: a teenager and a 4-year-old, the latter who is too traumatized to talk.
108. "Anonymous" (Nov 24 2000)
Is a serial killer on the loose? Grissom thinks so when a body found in a bathrub is arranged in the exact fashion as a previous corpse staged to look like a suicide. Nick and Warrick investigate a car crash with no driver but plenty of circumstantial evidence.
109. "Unfriendly Skies" (Dec 8 2000)
A first-class passenger dies violently on a flight to Las Vegas. Grissom and his team encounter contradicting stories and evidence from the remaining eight passengers.
110. "Sex, Lies & Larvae" (Dec 22 2000)
A woman is murdered, and her battered and bug-infested body is found on a mountainside and Gil and Sara investigate. Warrick and Catherine probe the theft of a valuable painting, and Nick examines a car found near a bus station. Did the driver leave town on the bus, or is did something more sinister occur?
111. "I-15 Murders" (Jan 12 2001)
A killer is leaving clues up and down the I-15 interstate, and Grissom and Catherine must piece together the clues before the latest victim dies. Nick runs into Kristy Hopkins, the hooker who drugged her clients, and Sara and Warrick must put personal differences aside to solve a robbery-homicide case.
112. "Fahrenheit 932" (Feb 1 2001)
Grissom is drawn into solving a case that is already solved: that of a man awaiting trial for arson and the murder of his wife and child. Catherine and Nick try to piece together the clues of a teenage 'runner' who was found shot dead in his car.
113. "Boom" (Feb 8 2001)
When a bomb blast destroys the lobby of a Vegas business building, Grissom must contend with an overeager security guard who is also a prime suspect. Nick spends the night with prostitute Kristy Hopkins (Pilot episode) and becomes the prime suspect after she is found murdered.
114. "To Halve and to Hold" (Feb 15 2001)
When the family pet retrieves a human bone instead of a stick, Grissom and Catherine must assemble the pieces of a skeleton found in the desert. Warrick and Sara investigate the death of a male stripper who died shortly after performing at a bachelorette party.
115. "Table Stakes" (Feb 22 2001)
A husband and wife con team are suspected of foul play when a woman is found dead in the mansion's swimming pool during a fund-raising party. They claim they're house-sitting for a legendary showgirl. Warrick is called to a homicide of a degenerate gambler found shot dead inside of a glass hotel elevator, and must face demons from his own past.
116. "Too Tough to Die" (Mar 1 2001)
Grissom, Sara and Nick tackle the case of a woman who was sexually assaulted, shot twice in the head and left for dead... a case which Sara gets too personally involved with. Warrick and Catherine help the DA with a murder case involving two neighbors arguing over a motorcycle.
117. "Face Lift" (Mar 8 2001)
The robbery of a store turns to murder when the thief is found dead, which then leads Grissom and Catherine on a wilder chase when the fingerprints of a presumed dead kidnap victim show up at the scene. Sara and Warrick have a difference of opinion on how a woman died - was it a simple fire - or was it spontaneous human combustion?
118. "$35K O.B.O." (Mar 29 2001)
A building collapse that claims the lives of three elderly women has Catherine puzzled and at odds with the district engineer. The team tries to piece together evidence from an apparent carjacking/homicide after rain deluges the crime scene.
119. "Gentle, Gentle" (Apr 12 2001)
A baby is kidnapped from a wealthy family, but evidence mounts that the family may have been involved.
120. "Sounds of Silence" (Apr 14 2001)
A vehicular-manslaughter case turns to murder when it's discovered that the victim, who was deaf, was already dead before being run over. Also, a shoot-out at a coffee shop, which may have been a professional hit, leaves five people dead, including a local high roller.
121. "Justice is Served" (Apr 26 2001)
A jogger is found dead, apparently killed by a large animal, but also mysteriously devoid of some internal organs -- which appeared to have been removed with a scalpel. Catherine becomes convinced that a 6-year-old girl's death inside an amusement park was no accident.
122. "Evaluation Day" (May 10 2001)
After a high-speed chase, the police discover a decapitated head in a stolen car driven by two scantily-clad women, and then a headless corpse is discovered in the desert -- but is it even human? The CSI must put two and two together... Warrick attempts to help a young inmate who has been falsely accused of killing a gang member.
123. "Strip Strangler" (May 17 2001)
A serial killer strangles his female victims, and then cleans up after himself. When Grissom is removed from the case by the Sheriff for strongly disagreeing with the FBI, he finds out that the Feds plan to use Sara as a decoy to trap the killer.
